The Patterson Lecture Series

Established by Gregg ’69 and Elaine Patterson, the Patterson Lecture Series (PLS) was established for students to explore themes during the school year in the classroom and by listening to invited speakers share their personal experiences and reflections. All PLS events are free and open to the public.

Before the start of the new school year, MCI selects a theme to incorporate in classroom instruction and extracurricular activities, then invites speakers to campus throughout the school year to speak to students during all-school meetings. Speakers from various walks of life have included Senator Susan Collins (Maine), Senator Angus King (Maine), Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair, US Astronaut Captain Stephen Bowen, local authors, clergy, professional athletes, and community leaders.

Recent PLS themes have focused on integrity, citizenship, and philanthropy. MCI’s theme for the 2018-19 school year is global citizenship.
