The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and school citizenship.

"Devon is one of MCI's most engaged student leaders," commented Christopher J. Hopkins, Headmaster. "Along with his active participation in athletic and campus activities, Devon stands out for his academic excellence in music, art, and writing."

Devon is a member of the Student Council, Key Club, Kindness Krew, National Honor Society, and performed all four years in MCI's Vocal Jazz and Jazz bands. He has played soccer, football, basketball and track throughout his school career, serving as captain for three years on the soccer team. Devon is the son of Scott and Rochelle Varney of Pittsfield.

Varney, Hopkins and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 7, 2018. The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the award of ten $1,000 scholarships.

The Principals' Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
