Heidi Dechaine Receives MPA Principal's Award
Heidi Dechaine of Pittsfield, a senior at Maine Central Institute, has been selected to receive the 2025 Principal's Award, Head of School David Pearson announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.
“Throughout her years at MCI, Heidi has distinguished herself in the classroom, and as a leader in the school and the community," said Head of School David Pearson. "Ostensibly quiet, deeply reflective, and possessed of a fierce intelligence and insatiable intellectual curiosity, Heidi epitomizes the very best of us. Her recent competitive selection to participate and represent MCI at an international environmental forum focused upon global warming challenges in Taipei, Taiwan, is simply the most visible example of the intrinsic motivation, personal confidence, and desire to make a difference of this exceptional student. Heidi very much deserves this recognition, and MCI is a better school because she is a part of our community.”
Dechaine, Pearson, and other award winners and their principals attended an Honors Luncheon at Jeff’s Catering on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.
The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
