College & Career Counselor
Maine Central Institute is a town academy high school located in Pittsfield, Maine. Approximately 300 students attend MCI in grades 9-12. This number includes students from a variety of towns in the central Maine area along with students from other states and countries from around the world. More than 60 students live on campus in dormitories. MCI is looking for an experienced school counselor with exceptional writing, speaking, and listening skills. The school counselor will join a team of one other school counselor, a registrar, and the Dean of Academics.
Responsibilities
-
Work for 10 days proceeding and 10 days following the school year, respectively, and is responsible for light email correspondence throughout the summer
-
Counseling approximately 50 seniors through the college application/workforce/military preparation process
-
Advise students with course selection, scheduling, developing 4-year academic plans and post-secondary planning for all students in assigned alpha group
-
Builds rapport and maintains regular contact with students on his/her/their caseload
-
Participating in 504, IEP, and parent / teacher meetings to discuss academic needs and post-secondary planning
-
Working with other members of the Academic Office on a variety of projects, including coordinating on-site testing (e.g., PSAT, SAT, Maine Through Year, STAR, and various placement tests)

Publicizing scholarship opportunities, coordinating student applications, coordinating rep visits, college fairs, transcript review days, and preparing materials necessary for internal and external selection processes

Coordinating parent and student events around topics such as financial aid, transitioning to MCI, and transitioning to college
-
Provides students with social & emotional support as needed; provides responsive crisis intervention, short-term counseling, and makes appropriate referrals to the school based clinical counselor and/or outside mental health service providers.
Qualifications

The candidate must have a BA or BS degree; those with an MS in Counseling with a concentration in school counseling or MEd in School Counseling are preferred

A high level of proficiency with technology is essential, including the use of PowerSchool, Naviance and social media

Regular travel to college campuses and active participation in professional organizations such as ASCA (American School Counseling Association) and MeSCA (Maine School Counseling Association)

Maine Central Institute, an independent secondary Town Academy located in Pittsfield, Maine is seeking an experienced Controller to help lead our finance team. This financial and operations professional will manage and direct all financial accounting and reporting for the school. The responsibilities include fiscal planning and forecasting, administering budgets, reporting and compliance. Responsibilities

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of the following areas: accounting, financial reporting, investments, payroll, budgeting, and benefits administration.

Math Teacher
Math Teacher
Maine Central Institute is seeking a full-time faculty member to join the Mathematics Department beginning in August for the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for an applicant with the experience or ability to teach in a collaborative environment. The department utilizes a myriad of resources, with the majority of them being from McGraw Hill for our underclassmen courses.
The faculty member will work closely with colleagues to develop an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking and problem solving. An ideal applicant will be comfortable teaching in a 1:1 iPad classroom, using Google Classroom to post course materials, and communicate with students and parents. This position requires frequent communication with parents, counselors, and other teachers, scheduling interventions for students, and attending department/faculty meetings.

This part-time (29.5 hours per week) position is open for the academic year. Responsibilities include assisting students in grades 9 - 12 in all high school subjects and working with students in a variety of mainstream classes. Maine Central Institute (MCI) is looking for a candidate who is positive, flexible, and willing to learn. Preference will be given to those with prior experience or training in behavior. The candidate must be able to work independently. The work environment is highly team-oriented, so communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
Qualifications

Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED; additional post-secondary coursework and degree preferred.

Candidates must hold current Ed Tech I State certification along with current State DOE authorization.

Library Specialist
Library Specialist
Maine Central Institute is seeking a full-time Library Specialist beginning in August for the 2024-2025 school year. The librarian/director of library and information services reports directly to the Dean of Academics. S/he is responsible for all aspects of the library programs and facilities, and seeks to ensure that the library’s academic and technology resources complement, enhance, and extend the school’s educational program. S/he will collaborate closely all faculty and staff.

Landscape Maintenance Technician
Landscape Maintenance Technician
The Landscape Maintenance Technician performs grounds maintenance and landscaping functions at facilities of the school system to improve appearance. Work involves the responsibility for safe efficient operation, and maintenance of motorized equipment such as backhoes, mowers, edgers, and other types of power equipment.
Responsibilities
-
Performs ground maintenance and landscaping functions such as fencing, asphalt and concrete repair, grass mowing, dumpster cleanup, tree removal, pruning, etc.
-
Maintains the grounds, grass, shrubbery, trees, walkways, steps and retaining walls of all school properties.
-
Maintains and repairs vehicles and equipment.
-
Operates mowers, trucks, edgers, trailers, and other hand tools and hand powered equipment while landscaping.
-
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including backhoes, bobcats, graders, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, hedge clippers, chain saws, shovels, rakes, etc. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences, reports, work orders, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, work orders, time sheets, etc.

Qualifications
- Graduation from high school supplemented by training in landscaping and lawn maintenance, and 1 to 2 years experience in landscape work and in the operation of a variety of motorized equipment or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Possession of valid driver’s license issued by the State of Maine. Must maintain a safe driving record.
- Considerable knowledge of various grounds maintenance and landscaping functions.
- General knowledge of safety precautions applicable to grounds maintenance.
- General knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
- Skill in operating general groundskeeping equipment.
- Skill in obtaining materials for and overseeing projects.
- Ability to maintain and repair groundskeeping equipment.
- Ability to train others in the use of groundskeeping equipment.
- Ability to maintain schedules.
- Ability to maintain simple logs and records.

Typical work day is Monday through Friday 7:00Am to 3:30PM. One 15 minute break in morning, one in afternoon. One-
half hour for lunch. The work day could change during school breaks, on snow days or when it better fits MCI work load as
determined by the Director of Facilities.
