Math Teacher

Classroom responsibilities for this full-time school year position include the ability and knowledge to teach courses in college preparatory math from Algebra I through pre-calculus. The faculty member will work closely with colleagues in the department and will teach a large number of international students. Candidates should be comfortable using iPads, interactive whiteboards, and other instructional technology and programs. Responsibilities include teaching six instructional courses and proctoring a study hall.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to teach at an independent residential school and an ability to contribute to a vibrant student activity program. Candidates willing to live in a residential setting and assist with residential life duties may receive priority consideration. If space is available, MCI may be able to provide on-campus housing in our residence halls and meals in our dining hall.  Each faculty member is expected to contribute to the co-curricular environment at MCI.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mathematics is required; a master's degree in education or math is preferred.
  • Prior high school teaching experience is required and experience with both struggling students and international students preferred.
  • Experience teaching English Language Learners is required; English as a Second Language (ESL) certification desired
  • Proficiency in use of instructional technology experience with l:l programs a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, peers, and supervisors.
  • Experience with UBD, backward mapping, and using data to assess student progress and to drive instruction.

Humanities History Teacher

Classroom responsibilities for this full-time school year position include teaching courses in world history and American history. The faculty member will work closely with colleagues in the department, as well as collaborate with an English teaching partner to offer students a complete humanities experience. The faculty member will teach essential skills such as reading, writing, speaking, research, analysis and citizenship skills. Candidates should be comfortable using technology in the classroom to enhance student learning. Responsibilities include teaching six instructional courses and proctoring a study hall.

Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher

MCI seeks a long-term substitute for Special Education. This position will run from approximately late August to late October with the possibility of the end date to extend into November.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach classes to students requiring specially designed instruction in reading, writing, the organization, and work completion;
  • Coordinate the Life Skills program and resource math instruction for eligible students;
  • Manage a caseload of students in grades 9 – 12 and coordinate their IEP meetings;
  • Work collaboratively with regular education teachers on curriculum and instruction for students with special needs;
  • Work collaboratively with MSAD #53 Special Services;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department head, academic dean, or head of school;
  • Support the school and its leadership.

 

Requirements:

  • A high level of proficiency with technology is essential, including the use of Gem Care, office software, 1:1 mobile technology, uploading and checking grades on Power Teacher;
  • Knowledge of best practices, legal requirements, and IDEA regulations related to special education instruction, teaching methodology, and behavior management of students with disabilities;
  • Experience coordinating and leading IEP teams and developing plans;
  • Exemplary collaborative¬ qualities and communication skills.

Educational Technician I

Part-time (28 hours per week) position open for the 2019-2020 academic year. Responsibilities include assisting students in grades 9 - 12 in all high school subjects and working with students in a variety of mainstream classes. Maine Central Institute (MCI) is looking for a candidate who is positive, flexible and willing to learn. Preference will be given to those with prior experience or training in behavior. The candidate must be able to work independently. The work environment is highly team oriented, so communication and problem solving skills are essential.

This position pays an hourly wage without benefits. Pay per collective bargaining agreement scale.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED; additional post-secondary coursework and degree preferred.
  • Candidates must hold current Ed Tech I State certification along with current State DOE authorization.
  • Candidates must be able to climb stairs and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Candidates must be willing to be trained as per safety care and protocol.
  • Proficiency in use of instructional technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, peers, and supervisors.
