On our campus in Pittsfield, Maine, MCI students and teachers from down the street and around the world come together — in the classroom and in the dormitories, on the playing fields and on stage, for music recitals and for meals — in an academic environment that is nurturing, safe and academically vibrant and exciting. Since 1866, MCI has graduated thousands of students who have developed lifelong friendships with classmates and teachers and have strengthened their connections with our school.
Founded in 1866 as a college preparatory school, MCI has continually modified its curriculum over the years to fulfill the academic needs of students pursuing post-secondary studies or vocational training.
Mission and Core Values
At Maine Central Institute, we pride ourselves on our morals and guiding principles that are reinforced by our students, faculty, and overarching school community.
The purpose of an MCI education is so much more than a transcript on a flimsy piece of paper, which in itself is relatively worthless. Rather, an MCI education is designed to inculcate in each individual an unquenchable passion for lifelong learning as thoughtful global citizens that, buttressed by personal bonds of fellowship, a strong sense of place, resilience, self-awareness, and active engagement with the world’s challenges, will define MCI graduates as educated citizen-leaders who will continually benefit their communities in the state of Maine and beyond.
