Addie Verrill Receives MPA Principal's Award

Addison Verrill of Pittsfield, a senior at Maine Central Institute, has been selected to receive the 2024 Principal's Award, Head of School David Pearson announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.

“As I routinely visit Maine Central Institute theatre productions, music festivals, Model United Nation conferences, athletic meets, student panels, themed dinners, clubs, activities, and classes - in fact the whole panoply of independent school life - one gets a true snapshot of student involvement in all that we offer, and one of the most committed and engaged students at MCI is our 2024 Valedictorian, Addison Kendall Verrill,” said Pearson. “Not only does Addie’s omnipotent presence make our school experience better for everybody, but she has no sharp edges and is universally liked and respected by faculty, staff, and peers alike, for the simple reason that she is a kind and genuinely helpful and thoughtful human being. As a four-year senior, Addie’s list of achievements is impressive by any standards, but far beyond this, it is her can-do attitude, leadership by example, and unflagging school citizenship that makes this year’s MCI Maine Principal’s Award recipient a recognition so richly deserved by Addison Verrill.”

Verrill, Pearson, and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at Jeff’s Catering on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 12:30 p.m.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.

The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
