Greetings MCI Alumni, Family, and Friends,
The April snow showers and blustery winds have given way to May blooms, sunshine, and grass that has gone from brown to yellow and now to green. It is great to see people walking to the park, active youth sports programs, and general movement to the outdoors! Our boarding students are venturing out to places such as Belfast along the coast for shopping and dining, and closer to home, an ice cream bar and bonfire at the Manson House. As you know, many MCI athletic events are scheduled throughout May (see the Athletics page on our website for specific times and locations). And on May 5, we celebrated our own version of "National Teacher's Day" with "MCI Employee Thank You Day". Students provided their own "THANK YOU" to teachers. We are hoping to have our International Food Festival and Key Club Color Run on Sunday, May 23. Our undergraduate students have their awards slated for May 25, and our BBT performance will be on May 29. Senior Chapel follows on June 4 with graduation on June 6.
I am happy to share with you that this summer will see significant work on Founder's Hall as we close out the campaign. The project is scheduled to begin the first week of June, and we hope it wraps up by the end of October. From redoing the electrical to installing an elevator and new stairways and floors, the building will be undergoing an amazing internal renovation. We look forward to these improvements as they will not only improve its aesthetics, but most importantly it will be brought up to safety standards and code and will be fully ADA compliant. Thus, all members of our community will have access to the wonders of this most historic place.
Finally, planning continues for Alumni Reunion the weekend of August 6th. Please reach out to your class agents, the Alumni Association, or our Advancement office for further information, the schedule, and to share your program ideas. And if you can volunteer some time to help us prepare and break down the events, we could certainly use the help. We look forward to having you all back on campus after missing last year!
I wish you all a wonderful long Memorial Day weekend as we usher in June. Please stay in touch. You can follow the happenings of the Alumni Association on their MCI Alumni Association Facebook, the MCI Facebook, @MCI Twitter, @MCI.School Instagram, or our frequently updated Website. Also, AmazonSmiles offers the shopper in you a way to contribute to MCI—please consider :)
All the Best,

Ethan Ross, class of 2000, with wife Christy and daughter Madi
MCI is proud to recognize Ethan for his outstanding work as a first responder in this pandemic. In his own words:
"I have been practicing Emergency Medicine for 13 years, beginning as a resident physician in Wilmington, Delaware, and now attending in the Denver Metro area. This past year presented more unique challenges on the medical front than I could have imagined when selecting this career. Our communities have felt heartache and anguish under the weight of COVID-19, but we have also seen historical outpouring of generosity and kindness, allowing us to endure. Personally, I could not be more grateful for the unyielding love and support I have received from my family and friends, both in Colorado and in Maine. Thank you. Wishing my MCI community a safe and healthy 2021!" ©2020 Maine Central Institute, 295 Main Street, Pittsfield, Maine 04967 |
