![]() Nick Miller, class of 2009 Greetings MCI Alumni, Family, and Friends,
Looking out onto front campus this rainy start to April, I can still see some snowy remnants of our Winter Carnival sculptures. That was the first time we really had all the students back to campus, and now we are completing our third week of four days per week, full reintegration of students. Like the flowers peeking through the soil, our MCI community is beginning to bloom. Last week we had the 150th presentation of Manson essays in Parks gym. Parents were able to see their daughter/son shine on stage in person or with our virtual stream.
Planning for May and June is already upon us. Since we did not have a Homecoming in the Fall, we will be celebrating this Spring with athletic events scheduled from May 6 to May 8 (see the Athletics page on our website for specific times and locations). On May 9, the International Food Festival will occur behind Parks gym. Our undergraduate students have their awards slated for May 25, and our BBT performance will be on May 29. June 4 will be Senior Chapel followed by graduation on June 6. Amidst this activity will be our Senior Project Exhibition Night, as well as a senior trip to Lake George. Indeed, May and June shall be busy for students and planners—a "busy" missed by all.
Finally, I happily announce our new Director of Advancement, Mr. Wayne Lobley. He will begin officially on April 15 but has already been helping us with grant opportunities and attending administrative team meetings. Wayne has worked in a variety of capacities, most recently as an independent consultant. Before that he served as the Director of University and Alumni Relations at the University of Maine, Director of Development at Northern Masonic Jurisdiction Charities, and Director of Annual Giving and Donor Recognition at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Please feel free to contact him and share your thoughts and ideas about MCI—past, present, and future.
I wish a Happy Easter for those who celebrate. Please stay in touch. You can follow the happenings of the Alumni Association on their MCI Alumni Association Facebook, the MCI Facebook, @MCI Twitter, @MCI.School Instagram, or our frequently updated Website. Also, AmazonSmiles offers the shopper in you a way to contribute to MCI—please consider :)
All the Best, Christopher M. McDonald

In Nick's own words: "'I'm passionate about writing and the teaching of writing, and I love helping others find their voice through self-expression. I'm an aspiring journalist and former high school football and baseball coach. You can catch me fly fishing or skiing on most weekends in Maine. Sharing these interests through writing and teaching drives me personally and professionally."
After teaching and coaching for seven years at Foxcroft Academy, Nick's journey brings him back to MCI where as a student he excelled as a student, an athlete, and a leader around campus. Nick was a member of the Key Club and was a three sport athlete winning the Dale McDonald Baseball award, the Mark Porter Memorial Football Award, and he was named Athlete of the Year. We are thrilled to have Nick as part of our MCI community again. Welcome home! ©2020 Maine Central Institute, 295 Main Street, Pittsfield, Maine 04967 |
