October 5, 2020

Greetings MCI Alumni, Family, and Friends,

Our first month of classes has come and gone. All students have successfully navigated four weeks of our "hybrid model" of instruction with two days of in-person instruction, two days of virtual learning via Google Meets, and Wednesdays reserved for individualized tutoring. I am grateful to our faculty, staff, and student leaders who have made our students feel welcome and at home. Students have settled into the routine of school while still enjoying the beautiful weather outside—nothing like September in central Maine! In celebration of mid-Autumn festival, we held our second sit down dinner on October 1st where students shared different cultural traditions ranging from food to dress to performances. Students enjoyed an evening of enlightenment and fine dining while expressing their appreciation for our residential life and kitchen staff who helped put the memorable event together. Sports are in full swing as are clubs and activities (football is modified to 7-on-7 with the hope of a full season in Spring). Unfortunately, we could not have our traditional Homecoming weekend, but we are exploring a modified way to celebrate our teams. Despite the challenges, we are still planning two community service events in the last two weeks of October with smaller groups within walking distance from campus.

Please join us in welcoming Bartianna Brown, who will be our class agent for 2020!  We still need more of you to join as some classes are missing representatives. Our Alumni Association, in conjunction with MCI, has rebranded with a concise mission statement and up-to-date bylaws. As you can see, our purpose with our Alumni Association is to plan fun activities (how about Zoom Trivia night or a bowling challenge?) that bring people back to celebrate and to continue with the traditions, values, and legacies of MCI.  With over 150 years of graduates, we need you!  Please reach out to the Alumni Association officers, to me, to Tom, to Sharon, to whomever you share a connection at the school. You can follow the happenings of the Association on their MCI Alumni Association Facebook, "like and follow" the MCI Facebook, @MCI Twitter, @MCI.School Instagram, or our frequently updated Website.

Finally, we are beginning discussions about Reunion Weekend, tentatively scheduled for August 7, 2021. Even though we were unable to host this exciting event this past August, we are together in spirit. Let's hope we can move forward this year.

Have a Happy October and keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy. You are always welcome here, and if you time it right, we can even have lunch together!

All the Best,

Christopher M. McDonald

Head of School
