Boys Tennis
The MCI Boys Tennis Team has experienced great success, capturing Regional and Conference Championships in 2026 after consecutive regional championship appearances in 2024 and 2025, and having two players reach the Round of 16 in the 2026 State Singles Tournament. The Huskies play in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) at the Class C level. The season runs from late-March through mid-June with matches against other Maine high schools.
Boys Tennis was one of the original sports offered at MCI beginning in 1893, and the program continues to benefit from many factors, including full use of the Manson Park Tennis Facility in Pittsfield, which features four beautiful courts and a state of the art hitting backboard just a 5-minute walk from campus. Additionally, MCI is conveniently located between two indoor tennis facilities. Head Coach Kyle Holmstrom, recognized with Tennis Coach of the Year awards in 2023, 2025, and 2026 is assisted by several knowledgeable assistant coaches, who work tirelessly to help players across the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams strive to reach their potential.
A great team culture underpins the program. The philosophy of the program is that by focusing great attention on building tennis skills within a fun and competitive team environment, MCI students will have a great experience, enjoy success on the court, and carry important lessons in commitment, perseverance, and teamwork with them into their futures off the court.
"My experience at MCI will definitely be remembered. I've been playing tennis for 8 years and l've always loved it, and I couldn't ask for a better team at MCI. Everyone met my passion, they were easy going, loved the sport and focused when they needed to. My coach was perfect for the role; he always tried to help everyone to improve. I can hardly think of anyone more devoted than him. Our season was full of amazing experiences, and I recommend to anyone to join the team if they are looking for a fun and
challenging adventure."- Francesco Tumsich, 2026 CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, Boarding Student from TURIN, ITALY

"When I joined, the MCI Boys Tennis team took me as part of their family. The best feeling is to belong to something bigger, and this is the MCI Boys Tennis team. I made huge improvements while I was at MCI, not because of talent, but because here we work hard, and we have the privilege to have different coaches that help us every day to become the best of us. I will say that you never feel alone in this community, you will have someone supporting you every time. These strong connections that I have made are what I will take with me into the future."
- Lucas Llagostera, 2023 MCI Boys Tennis Most Outstanding Player, Boarding Student from Madrid, Spain
