Experiential Learning Opportunities

Giving MCI students a specialized experience through our six Schools and Pathways requires dedicated, targeted courses and hands-on learning that will fulfill student desire. Experiential Learning Opportunities (ELO's) are just that: supplemental offerings to a student's normal courseload that will provide them with skills they can take into the workforce or on their own personal journies. These offerings hinge on partnerships with outside businesses and organizations, which are critical to the growth of the School of Schools model.

The Cianbro Institute
 

Over the course of eight day-long visits to the institute over four months, students will experience the trades through hands-on, foundational learning with instructors from the Cianbro Institute. When finished, students will have better understanding of the construction industry.

University of Maine 4-H Program

Students gain valuable hands-on learning experience in a variety of natural and environmental activities. 4-H programs are grounded in the belief that students learn best by doing. Students complete hands-on projects in areas of science, health, agriculture, and civic engagement.

Eastern Maine Medical Center

Over the course of four months, MCI students will have the unique opportunity to job shadow at Eastern Maine Medical Center, giving them valuable hands-on learning through a variety of professions in health care, specifically at a major medical center in the state of Maine!

Youth in Government

Youth & Government is a civic-education program by the YMCA that puts students in the seats of policymakers. Students take on the roles of legislators, lobbyists, court officials, or members of the governor’s cabinet in a simulation of the Maine State government.

Function First Therapy

Are you interested in fields that help people recover or improve their physical, cognitive or communication abilities - often after injuries or developmental delays? Job shadow opportunities are available in the fields of occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy!

Model United Nations

Is a civic-education simulation that puts students in the seats of diplomats engaging in International relations. Offered as both a class and a club, Model UN equips students with critical skills in research, argumentation, public speaking, debate, and so much more!
