MCI was represented very well by the music students at both the Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival in Boston on March 10 and the MMEA State High School Instrumental Jazz Festival on March 16 and 17.
At the Berklee Festival, the Jazz Band placed sixth out of 15 ensembles hailing from all over the Northeastern / Mid Atlantic U.S. The Vocal Jazz likewise had a strong performance which earned them the honor of being a finalist in their class (Vocal 2), placing third out of 15 ensembles.
Likewise, at the MMEA State Jazz Festival, the Jazz Combo earned a Gold (1 Rating) and was recognized as a finalist with third place in Division 3 Combos. Individual students recognized for excellence in solo musicianship were Walter Reuter '13, Andrew Schanck '12, Hannah Wardwell '14, Jen Chadwick '14, and Carolyn Newhouse '13. The Jazz Band earned a Gold (1 Rating) for their performance and was also recognized as a state finalist in Division 4 Jazz Bands. After an evening competition, the jazz band finished as runners up in the state of Maine. Their evening performance was stellar and they not only received high marks from the judges but also numerous compliments from other students, directors, parents and supporters of other schools from around the state. Individual students recognized for excellence in solo musicianship were Earth Vorachattarn '13 and Cody Hodgins '12.
