Music

MCI's Music Department prepares students to be lifelong learners and lovers of music. Our musicians perform on the local, state, and national stage. Concerts, festivals, exchanges, and competitions fill the year. Courses in music theory, composition, arranging, history, and piano complete the offerings.

Performing ensembles include Concert Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir (by audition), Vocal Jazz Ensemble (by audition), Instrumental Jazz Ensemble I, Instrumental Jazz Ensemble II (by audition), Jazz Combo (by audition) and Pep Band.

Students who enroll in the music program may choose or audition for a variety of options, which include Concert Choir; Vocal Jazz Ensemble; Concert Band; and Jazz Ensemble.

In 2004, MCI's musicians earned 1st Place, Superior Rating, Overall highest rating at the "Music in the Parks" Festival in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Since 1990, MCI has been represented by individual musicians at annual All State Band, Orchestra and Chorus Festivals that feature the top musicians in the state.

Since 1996, MCI has been represented at the prestigious All State Jazz Festivals by a number of individuals who have received Most Outstanding on their chosen instrument or voice part.  Jazz musicians have won first or second place at the Maine State Jazz Festival, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, for the last ten years.
