State and College Testing

Maine State Testing:  Information coming soon.

College Testing:

All students looking to pursue a college education at the technical college, Associate Degree (two-year), or Bachelor Degree (four-year), must take college entrance exams as part of the admissions process.  Students may choose between:

SAT I Reasoning Test: (renamed from Scholastic Aptitude Test in 2005): A comprehensive reasoning test that measures reading comprehension, math and writing skills. For a list of test dates and registration deadlines, please visit: www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/calenfees.html

SAT II (Subject Tests):
Comprehensive test that measures knowledge of individual subject areas including Literature, History, Math, Science, and Foreign Language.  Usually, only very competitive colleges require the SAT II Subject Test. The SAT I Reasoning Test and SAT II Subject Test is required predominately by colleges in eastern United States. For a list of test dates and registration deadlines, please visit: www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/calenfees.html

ACT: (American College Test) has a different format from the SAT.  The ACT measures abilities in four academic areas including English, Math, Reading, and Sciences.  The ACT also offers an optional Writing sample.  The ACT is required predominately in the west and mid-western United States.

** Visit www.fairtest.org for a list of colleges that have made the SAT scores optional.

TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language:  The test results indicate how well you communicate in English within the college/universities.  Be sure to have all required documents for this exam (passport).  MCI students take Internet Based Test (IBT) and the test is offered many times at MCI.  Please check dates.  You may register on line at www.ets.org

ACCUPLACER: Used by more and more colleges as a placement exam.  Your scores help determine what level classes you should begin with in college.  The test involves questions in Basic Math, English, and Reading.  Some colleges require the test be taken on their campus and others may allow that you complete the test in your Academic Office.  Check with the Academic Office.
