Financial Aid Information

Are you feeling overwhelmed about the financial aid process for your son/daughter?

Here are some helpful dates and websites to help you plan:

  • Get an idea of what colleges expect you to pay by going to the fafsa4caster on the FAFSA website.
  • Parents should plan to complete their 2008 taxes by February 15 (or sooner) in order to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on time.
  • Parents and students each need to register for a PIN # (website)
  • FAFSA applications are available online Jan. 1st (each year).  Online applications are preferred and faster.
  • MCI Academic Office hosts a Financial Aid Information Night every year, with a presentation by a FAME (Finance Authority of Maine) representative.
  • Our Academic Counselors would be happy to set up an appointment for you to walk you through the FAFSA application process.
  • Colleges have different deadlines for the FAFSA, please be aware of your deadlines for each college.
  • Some colleges will require the CSS/Profile (College Scholarship Service “Profile”) form.  Please check individual college websites for this requirement.
  • The CSS/Profile is accessed through the College Board website at www.collegeboard.com. There is a fee for this application.  The application is available on line by October 1st.  Parents and students should visit this website to set up a PIN #.
  • Colleges sometimes require additional financial aid forms of their own.  Please visit individual college websites under financial aid, for any additional financial aid forms.
  • If the college requires the CSS/Profile application, or their own institutional financial aid form (in addition to the FAFSA), the application will be considered incomplete and aid will not be awarded until all forms are filed.
  • All families applying for financial aid MUST complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Scholarships: Here is a list of local and nationwide scholarships you may qualify for.  This list is updated ever other week.
  • MCI Scholarship Application is available in April.
