FRESHMAN YEAR:  Although your senior year seems far away, you should begin thinking about your postgraduate plans now. If you begin planning now, you'll be ahead of the game.

•    Work Hard – All Year
•    Have Fun – All Year
•    Acclimate yourself to MCI
•    Join Clubs and Activities
•    Find your niche
•    Attend College/Job Fairs to see what they are like
•    Meet with your Academic Counselor (Academic Office) to discuss: Short/Long-term Goals (including Choices Program)(My Major & Career Matches - CollgeBoard), and Course Placement, and begin your activities sheet
•    If College is your long-term goal, check out www.collegeboard.com/actionplans  (Freshman Year)
•    Go over Credit Evaluation at the end of each semester with your counselor.
•    Website(s) to check out: www.bridges.com, www.collegeboard.com (quickstart and myroad)

SOPHOMORE YEAR:

•    Work Hard – All Year
•    Have Fun – All Year
•    If you haven't already, Join Clubs and Activities
•    Re-evaluate your Goals (short/long-term)
•    Meet with your Academic Counselor (Academic Office) to discuss: goals, classes, PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) Mandatory for sophomores and juniors.
•    Create an account on My College Quickstart at www.collegeboard.com/quickstart  (score report, study plan) www.collegeboard.com/myroad  (personality test, majors & careers)
•    Go over your Credit Evaluation - with Academic Counselor at the end of each semester.
•    Website(s) to check out: www.bridges.com, www.collegeboard.com (quickstart and myroad)

JUNIOR YEAR: This is a busy Academic/Planning year.

•    Work Hard – All Year
•    Have Fun – All Year
•    Manson Essay

Fall
•    Meet with your counselor to discuss: course selection and level, Goals (post secondary plans: work/college/military)
•    If you haven't done so already, create an account on www.collegeboard.com  (college checklist, practice SAT questions, Have SAT questions sent to your email daily, search for colleges, help with financial aid, and guidance on AP classes)  
•    Check out different college websites
•    If you want to play sports in college - What level? NCAA Clearinghouse – Div. I/II
•    Stay involved in extra-curricular activities
•    Look for opportunities in leadership roles
•    PSATs will be taken in Oct. (mandatory for sophomores and Juniors) - Prepare by going to www.collegeboard.com/quickstart  

Winter
•    Practice Tests for SAT – www.collegeboard.com/satprep
•    Continue your involvement with extra curricular activities and leadership roles

Spring
•    SAT will be taken in May - mandatory for all Juniors (registration will be done as a class-TBA)
•    Attend the NEACAC College Fair - Augusta Civic Ctr. in May (class trip)
•    Request information from colleges you are interested in
•    Go over Credit Evaluation with Academic Counselor and choose challenging classes for your senior year

SENIOR YEAR: Your Future!

•    Work Hard – (All Year) This is the last quarter colleges see if applying early
•    Have Fun – All Year
•    Be a good Leader

Fall
•    College Calendar Checklist – www.collegeboard.com
•    Pick up the PINK Letter of Recommendation Form from Academic Office
•    Request Letters of Recommendation from teachers (must hand the PINK form to them)
•    Meet with your Academic Counselor to discuss Post Secondary Plans (work, college, or military)
•    Attend NEACAC College Fair at University of Maine (Mr.Judd/Mrs.Manter)
•    Work on College Essays in English class
•    Set up a profile on college websites that request it
•    Perform a college search at www.collegeboard.com/collegesearch  
•    Narrow down college search - seek help of Academic Counselor
•    Sign up for SAT, SATII Subject Tests, ACT, TOEFL - see Tests
•    Applying for financial Aid?  Go to FAFSA.gov and apply for a PIN # (both student and parent need separate PIN #)
•    If your potential school requires the PROFILE, go on line and fill it out.
•    Send out Early Decision/Early Action Applications…Don’t miss Deadlines

Winter
•    Continue to take SAT I/SAT II, ACT, and TOEFL tests as needed
•    Send out Early Decision/Early Action Applications (Many EA/ED deadlines are Nov. 1 and Dec. 1)…Don’t miss Deadlines.
•    Continue to work hard in your classes, This semester is the last colleges see before sending out the acceptance letter.
•    Applying Regular Decision?  Get your applications out now and NOT the day before the deadlines are due
•    Students who applied early can begin checking for letters in the mail or check your on line status (between December and January)
•    Write thank you notes to the teachers who wrote letters of recommendation for you
•    January 1st, Fill out FAFSA

Spring
•    Check application status on line/mail
•    Look over financial aid letters and schools you are eligible to attend
•    Visit top choice schools you were accepted to
•    Send in your deposit to your school of choice, to save your spot by the middle of April; Do NOT send it before you receive your financial aid award letters
•    Begin looking for a summer job
•    Get ready for graduation
